Automotive Sector Plays The Leading Role in Digitalization

Standard Profil IT Group Director Fatih Kurt

The automotive sector that leads the industrial revolutions assumes a central role in digital transformation as well. Such change in automotive that is the trailblazer of technology and standardization will also affect the entire automotive and sub-industry ecosystem.

Development of the technologies that facilitate daily life and businesses, groundbreaking innovations, and the new user groups brought along with them show that progress is toward digitalization in an unpreventable manner.  Being the mastermind of the 4th Industrial Revolution,  Germany made the roadmap of this journey in 2013  and published its second and revised version in 2016. Industry 4.0 is a journey of transformation required for the integration to the system that takes place in global dimension, differently from establishing individual systems by receiving the equipment of high technology. This long journey has numerous sub processes. For the completion of all such processes in a healthy manner, it is necessary to start from now to establish the infrastructure of technology, education, and human resources and adapt the previous structure in line with the new requirements. It is conditional for it to get a realistic picture of the situation at hand. Details like “to what extent are the processes being conducted around automation for the time being?”, “is production being conducted in the Industry 2.0 and 3.0 standards?”, “how much have the processes been standardized?” must be clarified. On the other hand, it is a highly critical issue that the infrastructure and human resource that will be required as long as the transformation takes place in industry are to be planned and prepared for the medium and long terms, from today.

HOW WILL THE SUB-INDUSTRY BE AFFECTED?

The automotive sector that leads the industrial revolutions assumes a central role in this transformation as well. This change in the OEMs that are the banner-bearers of technology and standardization will affect the entire automotive sub-industry ecosystem. Examples like the personalized tools, full digital integration of the supply chain, and integration of the parts produced with the vehicle system demonstrate clearly what kinds of impacts it may make us subject to as the sub-industries despite the fact that we are right in the beginning of the process of digitalization.  The need for employment and human resources in each sector will be affected differently from the 4th Industrial Revolution. In the sectors where muscle power will be replaced by robots or cobots and brain power by artificial intelligence, the possibility for the reduction of workforce is very high. However, the new occupations and production increase that will emerge through such transformation will demonstrate that employment will increase as opposed to what is being contemplated. The important thing is to train the existing workforce in the way that it will have the capability and skill required by new businesses and to prepare the environment for the young ones who will take part in the workforce in our company.

CYBER SECURITY IS THE PRIORITY

SP has taken the first steps toward global digitalization, a  part of its strategy, with the SAP and cloud platforms. This process is ongoing with the projects like HR Success Factors, c, e-reconsolidation, e-workflow, and PLM West and the change will be continued by also adding the processes of production and supply chain. As a completely digital world will bring along new and different cyber threats, the first priority in each new step to be taken will be cyber security.

It is a highly critical issue that the infrastructure and human resource that will be required as long as the transformation takes place in industry are to be planned and prepared for the medium and long terms, from today.
